The CO2 laser wavelength is 10600nm, which can be fully absorbed by human biological tissue (all skin is available). The sealed fractional CO2 laser, whose laser light output will be transferred by an articulated arm, which has a better sense of direction and higher energy density. The CO2 laser operates in the invisible infrared wave band, and aiming beam is required to see where the treatment beam will hit the tissue most recently from a visible red diode laser. When the laser beam passes through the focusing lens, the heat produced will gasify the target tissue.
With fractional laser resurfacing, the laser beam is split or fractionated into many small microbeams that are spread apart so that when they hit the surface of the skin, the small areas of skin between the beams are not hit by the laser and they remain intact. These small areas of untreated skin promote much faster recovery and healing with less risk of complications. The small areas treated by the fractional microbeams, called microtreatment zones, cause sufficient laser injury to promote new collagen production and resultant facial skin rejuvenation.
